The game is a combination of luck and ability combined with decision-making. The card game has adapted over a period of time. Players have specialized in certain skills like "card card counting," which allows them to shift the edge in the game in the players favor. The game has been in existence since the 1700s. References can be found in historical documents to a game known as "vingt-et-un," which in French means 21, and is thought of as the precursor to black jack.
The card game was at first not so popular in the US. This led to the gambling houses trying various features like offering a bonus like a ten to one payout, if the black jack player had an ace of spades and a black jack. The jack could be either clubs or spades. Once the game became well-known, the bonus payout quickly vanished from the rules.
Any hand which reaches a total of 21 is considered a winner. The value should not be in excess of twenty one, if it does the hand is considered to be "bust." The goal of any player is to best the croupier. If the blackjack player and the dealer both have the identical score, it’s called "push" (a tie), with neither the player or the casino winning the hand.
